About Us
The Trauma ICU is an award-winning educational platform dedicated to the three pillars of modern Acute Care Surgery: Critical Care (ICU), Trauma, and Emergency General Surgery (EGS). We are committed to providing the most effective, up-to-date, and comprehensive material for residents, students, and practicing surgeons.
As general surgery interns, we were dissatisfied with the quality of the available review resources. Textbooks provided great reads on specific topics but have become antiquated: bloated long-text format requires significantly more energy to process, the bulky mass is difficult to access as needed, and they rapidly become out of date. Review books were too superficial and often filled with inaccurate information. Other websites did have some good content, but many were difficult to navigate, most required an individual access, and none were dedicated to general surgery. The most frustrating thing, however, was the cost of everything. We decided to create something better.
Hence, The Operative Review of Surgery (The O.R.) was born. What started as a small review manuscript rapidly grew beyond that. After years of creating content, the program officially launched in 2021-2022. It continued to grow with over 700 review articles covering the entire field of surgery. The program is being used throughout the US and countries throughout the globe. Dozens of residents and physicians have contributed to make this program a success. The countless words of encouragement and residents contacting us to let us know how the program has helped them makes it all worthwhile. We were awarded the 2023 ACGME David C. Leach Award for innovation in medical education.
As a founder transitioned into Acute Care Surgery fellowship and practice, greater attention was focused onto these topics. Subsequently, The Trauma ICU was developed to provide a platform dedicated to Acute Care Surgery. We were similarly awarded with the 2024 SCCPDS Award for innovation in education.
